What Is a Pronoun?
A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.
Look at these sentences:
Bob is a teacher.
He is a teacher.
Maria is happy.
She is happy.
The book is new.
It is new.
The words he, she, and it take the place of nouns.
What Is a Subject Pronoun?
A subject pronoun is a pronoun that is the subject of a sentence.
English has seven basic subject pronouns:

| I | the person speaking | I am a student. |
| you | the person or people being spoken to | You are my friend. |
| he | one male person | He is a teacher. |
| she | one female person | She is happy. |
| it | one thing, animal, place, or idea | It is cold. |
| we | the speaker + another person or people | We study English. |
| they | two or more other people or things | They are students. |
Noun → Subject Pronoun
We can replace a noun with a subject pronoun.
Bob → he
Bob is a teacher.
He is a teacher.
Maria → she
Maria has a book.
She has a book.
The car → it
The car is new.
It is new.
Bob and Maria → they
Bob and Maria are students.
They are students.
Maria and I → we
Maria and I study English.
We study English.
