What Is a Sentence?
A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought.
A complete thought contains at least one subject and one verb, but it can contain much more than that.
Examples
Complete Sentences
- I am happy.
- She has a book.
- They study English.
Not Complete Sentences
- Happy.
- My book.
- Running fast.
What Is a Subject?
The subject of a sentence is who or what is doing or being something.
It is usually a noun (a person, place, or thing) or a pronoun—a word that takes the place of a noun (I, you, he, she, it, we, they).

What Is a Verb?
A verb is a word that shows an action or a state of being.
Action Verbs
