  1. Hi KBob,

    Great site.

Your topic is in my area of expertise. I’m a retired EFL/ESL/EAP teacher at the University Level and I run my own language learning site too. I’ve been working for the last 20 years in Japan and remote for 5 of those years.

In my view, language learning online is perfect as long as you have the right materials and are skilled at using conference platforms and other interfaces. This is the future. So many of my students loved remote learning and felt they were developing amazing skills and resources, and becoming their own teachers. This style of autonomous learning is, after many years of trial and error, the most efficient. Students learn a their own pace with well-designed materials.

My research and network also assure me that there are many non-native English performers out in the global community who can’t get to classrooms or afford face-to-face fees. This means that disadvantaged, challenged people can learn too if they have an internet signal nearby.

So, all the very best of success. I’ll check you out.

    • Hi Linden, it’s nice to make your acquaintance. Thanks for your comments. It’s always a pleasure to meet others who travel or who have traveled the same road.

What is the name of your site? Perhaps we can help one another.

I had never heard of Zoom until the pandemic and lockdown occurred. I was thrust into teaching online and forced to learn about Zoom on the quick. I did that for a year before returning to the classroom, where I continue to teach via the hybrid method (in person and via Zoom simultaneously).

I recognized immediately that I preferred and still prefer to teach online rather to have to drive a certain place to teach. I also realized there are many students who either prefer it or it’s the best way, if not the only way for them to attend classes.

Hence, my retirement plan to continue teaching ESL online for the rest of my life but solely online.

I hope we can keep in touch.

      KBob
